Choosing the Type of Digital Camcorder

Prior to purchasing the camcorder for that special occasion, research is essential. There is an abundance of selection from brands (Sony, Canon, Nikon and Samsung), recording styles (eg firewire and DV recording) and format types. I will summarize the major varieties of camcorders as well as provide a list of pros and cons.

Controlling the Video Camcorder

It is frustrating when a shot is missed because you thought the camcorder was on. The user should learn and be familiar with the equipment; often time's camcorders make a slight noise when the recording process is enabled. Learn this noise and remember it. Similarly, camcorders may often flash a small blinking light on the viewfinder to indicate it started to record. This concise filming will help when you are editing your home video. Familiarize yourself with the camera to ensure you know when it's on and off.

Analog tapes are not recommended as they are outdated and only yield low quality video and audio. They are relatively cheap, but do not work adequately enough to be considered a camcorder for your special occasion.

An alternative to analog tapes is their evolved form, digital. The price difference is worth the upgrade, I would not suggest analog tapes to anyone living in the 21st century, the media type is outdated and no longer relevant.
