This new generation of camcorders is able to record directly to memory cards such as Compact Flash, Secure Digital, as well as Microdrives. Trouble Lighting

Digital cameras will automatically try to adjust the picture so it will look better under certain lighting conditions. If the Camera is pointed at a bright source of light, the camera will adjust itself. The subject will become darker and lose its detail. There is no real method to fix this other then to strictly avoid these types of conditions. Focus on the subject and make sure the camera can see properly without having to self adjusts.

Mini DV's are presently the most widely used form of media. The Mini DV format has the ability to yield high-quality media, and they are also compact, good value, and can be purchased just about anywhere. This would be a good video camcorder technology to have for your first digital camcorder.
